UEFA Euro Cup final Spain vs Italy 2012 Preview:

Spain

Save one, no European team has been as dominant as the current Spanish time over a period of time. The great West German side of Beckenbaur and Gerd Muller reached three consecutive finals (Euros 1972 and 1976, 1974 World Cup) but won only two titles. Therefore, Spain has a chance of creating history when they line-up against Italy in the final. However, Vicente del Bosque will have some headaches before the match.
Despite reaching the final, Spain has often looked vulnerable in Euro 2012. Their demolition of lowly Ireland and rife-torn France were the only matches when Spain looked their best. Against Portugal in the semi-final, La Furia Roja was largely kept quiet during 90 minutes. Portugal’s excellent pressing and closing down of spaces meant that Spain created little, failing to notch a shot on goal in regulation time. Spain squeezed part Portugal in the tie-breaker but their performance left a lot to be desired.
Spain Captain Euro Cup 2012
Failure of Negredo and del Bosque’s move to replace him with Fabregas means that Spain is likely  to retain the 4-6-0 formation against Italy. That tactic didn’t work particularly well against Italians in the group game but del Bosque cannot afford to drop Cesc Fabregas, a player who has delivered for Spain on the big stage on multiple occasions. Fernando Torres had a solid impact after coming on as a sub against Italy and is likely to repeat that role in the final as well.
Sergio Ramos had a particularly poor match against Italy but his form has steadily improved since and he was perhaps Spain’s best player in the semi-final. The midfield will once again see the classic encounter between Andrea Pirlo and Xavi. In terms of individual play, Pirlo has been better than Xavi in Euro 2012 but the Barcelona playmaker will like to set the record straight in final.
Spain’s most dangerous player is Andrés Iniesta. Iniesta was the only Spanish attacker who troubled Italy in the first match when others struggled and is a proven big match player, as his goal in the World Cup final will attest. Iniesta is one of the most difficult players to mark in world football with his deceptive movement and perfect positioning. His telepathic understanding with Xavi has been a driving force behind Spain’s success and his performance may decide the final in the end.
Complaints have risen against the current Spanish team for their lack of directness and for playing too many passes amongst themselves. However, as England and Germany found out direct play is not necessarily the best way to open up this Italian defence. The Spanish style of elaborate pattern-play is likely to cause more problems to Chiellini and co.
Possible Starting XI (4-6-0): Casillas; Arbeloa, Pique, Ramos, Alba; Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Alonso, Fabregas, Silva.

Italy

Scandals and Italians, it’s incredible isn’t it? Few gave Italy a chance to progress to the final, despite an encouraging performance against the world champions. But, here they are playing in their first Euro final in 12 years. Success in big tournaments and Italy was never too far apart but what makes Prandelli’s side unique is the brand of football they played so far. For once, neutrals fell in love with the men in azure blue. Italy has defended strongly in every match but they have also come out of their shell and created many scoring chances in every game. Poor finishing from strikers means that Italy’s goals scored section doesn’t do proper justice to the number of attempts they had.
Two players have been outstanding for Italy till now – Andrea Pirlo and Daniele De Rossi. The veterans of 2006 World Cup have barely put a foot wrong. Pirlo has dictated the tempo in every game he has played till now. With 1 goal, 2 assists and 87% pass success rate, the Juventus midfielder has been the driving force behind Italy’s run to the final. Even in the games where he didn’t notch up a goal or direct assist he has made telling contributions – like the goal-line clearance against Germany and the decisive penalty against England.
De Rossi, on the other hand, has made his dodgy form for Italy of last 2 years a thing of the past. The Roma talisman has thrived in every position he played till now, be it central defence or midfield. With 12 successful tackles and 15 interceptions, De Rossi has been a rock for Italy and could have gotten on the score-sheet if he hadn’t struck the post against England.
Italy Captain Euro Cup 2012
The Juventus quadruple of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Gianluigi Buffon has all carried their club forms to Euro 2012. Buffon has not had to make too many saves till now but he has come up to trumps whenever called into action. Barzagli has been dishing out quiet but solid performances in every match, typifying his club form. Leonardo Bonucci, on the other hand, has improved by leaps and bounds during this tournament. The ex-Bari defender was expected to be a weak link but he has proved all his critics wrong.
Mario Balotelli and Antonio Cassano are finally showing signs of combining well. The Manchester City striker was on a different level against Germany as he effectively ended the match with a first half brace. With three goals against his name, Super Mario is firm favourite to win top scorer award and Italy will be looking towards the enigmatic striker to repeat his semi-final heroics. Ricardo Motolivo, who has often been derided for his performance for Italy has also performed superbly in last 2 matches.
Possible Starting XI (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Abate, Bonucci, Barzagli, Chiellini; De Rossi, Marchisio, Pirlo; Montolivo; Balotelli, Cassano

Spain vs Portugal Euro 2012 Semi Final Match Analysis

Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo had missed a good chance to put Portugal through in the last minute of normal time whilePortugal keeper Rui Patricio made superb saves to deny Jesus Navas and Andres Iniesta in extra-time with no goals over 120 minutes.
The Spaniards had started better, and ought to have gone ahead from their first chance in the ninth minute when Manuel Negredo pulled the ball back for Alvaro Arbeloa to fire over the bar from the edge of the box.
Andres Iniesta blazed over from long range a minute later, but Portugal threatened in the 13th minute through Ronaldo, who beat Gerard Pique down the left before crossing towards Nani, with Iker Casillas jumping to make a crucial interception.
Paulo Bento’s men had clearly wrested the upper hand, suffocating the Spanish midfield and worrying their opponents through the persistent threat of Ronaldo and Nani up front.
But Spain still almost contrived the grab the lead against the run of play in the 29th minute, when Xavi’s clever ball found Iniesta on the edge of the box, who rolled the ball onto his right foot before floating a shot inches over Rui Patricio’s goal.
Within two minutes, Portugal had responded with an even better chance, Joao Moutinho’s persistence paying off on the edge of the box as he set free Ronaldo to drill a low shot just wide of Casillas left hand post.
Portugal’s control continued into the second half, with Nani almost picking out the head of Hugo Almeida from a dangerous right wing cross, and it proved enough for Vicente Del Bosque, who replaced Negredo with Fabregas up front.
Almeida wasted a good chance in the 58th minute when he fired ambitiously over the Spanish bar instead of picking out Ronaldo or Nani, who were unmarked to his left and right respectively.
Belatedly, Spain started to show signs of stirring, Xabi drilling a shot straight at Patricio from long range, but despite beginning to edge possession, chances continued to be few and far between.
Ronaldo, still terrorising the Spanish defenders at every opportunity, fired a free-kick just over from 30 yards, but a game that had started brightly drifted into a dull spell in which neither side could serve up much of a threat.
Then came a glorious chance for Ronaldo in the last minute of normal time, when a Portuguese counter-attack saw Raul Meireles feed the Real Madrid man who fired over the bar from the left side of the box.
The introduction of Pedro lent some urgency to the Spanish attack in extra-time, and his run set up a chance for Iniesta in the seventh minute of the extra half hour, but his low shot was blocked in the box.
The Portuguese were plainly tiring, and Spain had an even better chance in the 104th minute, when Jordi Alba’s cross found Iniesta in front of goal but Patricio managed to flap his shot wide from six yards.
Sergio Ramos slammed a long-range free-kick just over the bar before the end of the first period of extra-time, and Ramos was soon in critical action at the other end when cutting out a Fabio Coentrao ball meant for Ronaldo.
Substitute Jesus Navas was next to get the chance to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute of extra-time, picking up a ball from Arbeloa in the box and hitting a shot which Patricio did well to save down low.
As Spain kept pressing, Pedro briefly burst clear before being caught by Fabio Coentrao, but by then there was a certain inevitability about a match that promised much but offered little heading to penalties.
Alonso had the first spot-kick saved by Patricio but Casillas evened things up by saving the first Portuguese penalty from Moutinho.
Iniesta, Pepe, Pique, Nani and Sergio Ramos all put away their penalties before Alves – who had inadvertently stepped up for the previous penalty which was eventually converted by Nani – hit the bar, leaving Fabregas to put Spain through.

Germany vs Italy Euro 2012 Preview from Espnsoccernet.com

The German revolution after Euro 2000 is approaching its apex. In retrospect, it seems an obvious and logical response to the disastrous performance of 12 years ago, particularly as, since reunification, they have won only one major international trophy, but Germany of all countries could have been excused for keeping the faith in their trademark efficiency. After all, only two years later, long before the revitalised coaching system began to bear fruit, they reached the World Cup final.

The changes have resulted in a thrilling new national side that announced itself through the ruthless exposure of England and Argentina’s shortcomings at the 2010 World Cup, and they continue to tear relentlessly through their opposition: they have scored in each of their last 20 games, netting 51 goals in total, and have won 15 competitive games in succession. It is a record even the West German side of the early 1970s could not match.

Standing in their way of reaching the final are Italy: a team potentially riven with injury problems that have just had to endure extra-time and a penalty shootout in a quarter-final played two days later than Germany’s. Reports suggest Daniele De Rossi, who has excelled at the tournament, is winning his battle for fitness, while Ignazio Abate and Giorgio Chiellini should also be available, but such concerns are far from ideal for a side already likely to be struggling with fatigue.

Germany, conversely, have a wealth of options that allow them to rest players at will. Joachim Low changed his entire front three for the 4-2 victory over Greece, and any significant concern over Bastian Schweinsteiger’s fitness could be resolved by bringing in his Bayern Munich team-mate Toni Kroos. Mario Gotze, one of the three players in the squad that Rafael van der Vaart acknowledged as being of genuine class, has not yet managed to make it onto the field this summer. They are in prime position and they know it. “I believe we are the team you have to beat if you want to win this tournament,” Low said after easing through their quarter-final.

Yet while the recent evidence makes Low’s men clear favourites, history favours the Azzurri: Italy have never lost to Germany in a competitive game, and have claimed two wins and a draw against them in their friendly matches in the last decade. The last competitive meeting was Italy’s 2-0 win in the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup.

“It's the time to break that series,” forward Lukas Podolski told Bild in the build-up to the game. “Since 2006 we have improved enormously. Today we have a whole different philosophy and a different team. The Italians also know that. One thing is clear – we want to be in the final, so we have to beat the Italians.”

To do so they will have to break another series: under Cesare Prandelli, Italy have not yet lost a competitive game.

Germany player to watch: Philipp Lahm.

A highly capable defender, the captain provided a reminder against Greece that he also poses a goal threat and his raids from left back will be of particular concern for Italy, who are without Christian Maggio through suspension and have doubts over the fitness of Ignazio Abate. If Cesare Prandelli continues to ask his full backs to provide the width to his team, Lahm could thrive.

Italy player to watch: Riccardo Montolivo.

Montolivo, who agreed a move to AC Milan this summer, came into the side for the quarter-final against England in place of Thiago Motta and excelled in the first half. That he missed a glorious chance from close range and then fired his penalty wide in the shootout may have led some to appraise his performance unkindly but, with so much of the pre-match focus on Andrea Pirlo, he may be able to cause real problems if the Germans leave him space in front of the defence.

Key battle: Bastian Schweinsteiger v Andrea Pirlo.

Schweinsteiger was far from his best in the 4-2 victory over Greece and has recently suffered from injury problems, but he has declared himself fit to face Italy and, given his undoubted quality and ability to lead, it would be a significant surprise if he were not in the starting line-up. He will come up against Pirlo, who has a phenomenal capacity for controlling the game. Ahead of the tournament, Spain legend Luis Suarez had suggested he was a finer player than Xavi, and his magisterial showing against England, capped with a Panenka penalty in the shootout, has only enhanced his reputation. If Germany can disrupt him, they should win the game; if Pirlo takes control, Italy’s unblemished record could endure.

Stats: Italy have scored only four goals at Euro 2012 – the least of any semi-finalist since the tournament was expanded to include a quarter-final stage at Euro 96.

Trivia: Riccardo Montolivo’s mother is from Hamburg and has the German flag stitched into his boots. "Part of me is German,” he said, “but I feel Italian.”

Odds: Germany (1.90), Italy (4.50) and the draw (3.40) are on offer with bet365, while Philipp Lahm is 21.00 to score at any time.

Prediction: Spain were able to derail the Germans’ momentum and sneak a 1-0 win at the World Cup two years ago, but the Italians will struggle to repeat that feat this time around. Fortune has favoured the brave so far at Euro 2012, and Cesare Prandelli has vowed to take a proactive approach to the contest, but Germany look to have the stronger attacking threat and fatigue is likely to be terminal in the face of constant attacks.

Portugal vs Spain Semi-Final Euro 2012 Preview:

Portugal and Spain renew their Iberian rivalry, with both teams coming off the back of three consecutive wins at Euro 2012 after an opening day loss to Germany and draw with Italy respectively.
Seleccao boss Paulo Bento remains confident despite the disruption of Ricardo Quaresma and Miguel Lopes coming to blows during training on Saturday, but will be forced into a change after centre-forward Helder Postiga suffered a thigh injury against Czech Republic, and will be replaced by either Hugo Almeida or youngster Nelson Oliveira in the starting XI.
Meanwhile, the rest of the line-up is expected to remain the same as Cristiano Ronaldo, who has three goals in his last two games, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao come up against several of their Real Madrid team-mates and Clasico rivals from Barcelona on the opposition side.
This generation of Spain players are coming off an effective quarter-final win over France and looking to add this tournament to their trophy cabinet after Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010, but a majority of the media have been unimpressed, labelling their performances “boring” so far, and questioning whether the team is up to the same standards as the last few years.
Coach Vicente del Bosque will not be swayed by the critics though, and is likely to stick with the players and formation he has utilised in Poland and Ukraine thus far with the lone doubt coming up front.
La Roja have started Cesc Fabregas as a ‘false No.9′ on two occasions and gone for the more direct approach of Fernando Torres in their other two matches, with both players notching two goals at the tournament so far. However, the Chelsea star may have the slight edge in being chosen for the first XI come Wednesday night.

England vs Italy Euro 2012 preview

Italy
Italy have only been knocked out of the quarterfinals of a major tournament on two occasions.
In 10 quarterfinal matches at the European Championships or World Cup finals, Italy have allowed four goals and never more than one in a game.
England
England have lost seven out of 10 quarterfinal games at major tournaments
They have managed just one win from their last nine games against Italy.
They had the best shot conversion rate in the group stages of the tournament at 21.7 percent.
How We Got Here
England
Despite dealing with injuries and a suspension to Rooney, the English were treading on perfection in the group stages.  England opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against France.  They then beat Sweden in a riveting 3-2 match.  Finally, the English finished group play with an exciting 1-0 victory against Ukraine.
Italy
The Italians continue to surprise many with their play.  Coach Prandelli and the Italians have been solid but unspectacular so far throughout group play.  Italy has advanced to the quarterfinals with five points despite only scoring four goals in three games.  They opened play with 1-1 draws with both Spain and Croatia before finally earning a tough 2-0 victory against the Irish.
Penalties May Be the Difference
England and Italy are two teams who have an interesting history with penalty kicks.
The Italians have already won and lost a World Cup final on them (1994 and 2006).  In major tournaments, Italy’s record with penalty kicks is short of memorable.  Italy holds a record of 2-6 in major tournament matches that are determined with the spot kick.
England have not been much better historically.  England have seen penalty kicks decide their fate on six different occasion in major tournaments.  Within those situations, England hold a 1-5 record, with  their only win coming against Spain in 1996.
These two teams combine for a 3-12 record in major tournament matches that are determined by penalty kicks.
With the defense both of these clubs are expected to play, penalty kicks could become a crucial factor in who comes out victorious from this match.
Prediction
In what should be a tough fought defensive match, England pulls away with a scrappy 1-0 victory over the Italians.

Spain vs France Live Streaming Euro Cup Match 2012 Preview

Spain
came to this EURO as strong favorites to lift the title, but the things don’t look that bright for them at this moment. Yes, they have passed the group stage and on the first position, but their performance can’t satisfy anyone in comparison to how they played in recent years. Yet, there is still room for improvement, but also the opponents are being more and more quality and the chances for some bigger improvement are getting slimmer – this doesn’t mean that the Spaniards can’t go on and lift the title, but that their football probably won’t be much better in comparison to what we saw till now. They were better in their first game against Italians, but lacked more concentration at the finishing touch and finally ended up drawing 1:1. In the second game, they simply faced up against much weaker opponent and it was easy for them to destroy the Irish with a 4:0 score. Third and, it came out, as the most important game for them was against Croats – this game is also the biggest reason for our bet, the Spaniards have won it with a narrow 1:0 result, but their performance wasn’t that good. The Croatians managed to block all Spanish attacks and it could be said that they were better side in the second half, creating quite a few dangerous situation in front of Spanish goal. Especially active the Croatians were as the game was approaching to its end and in a few occasions the Spaniards were really lucky not to receive a goal – a goal that would probably kick them out of the Euro. The Croats stood very well at the pitch for the whole game and have shown the example how it should be played against Spain.
France
managed to ruin picture of themselves with the last group stage match against Sweden as they lost it 0:2. The French did good in their first match against England as they drew 1:1 and were way better side, but lacked finishing touch in order to win that game. In second round, they faced up against hosts from Ukraine and won easily 2:0, without any bigger problem regarding result in that game. As said, they lost the third game losing to Swedish team 0:2 and generally played one of the worst games in past two or three years. However, it must be said that they were already qualified and although it’s not a excuse for them – they probably didn’t care as they would if the situation was different. French team will be without their defender Mexes who is suspended for this game, but Koscielny is taking his place and he should be more than capable of replacing him.
French will probably try to play defensive and in a similar style as the Croats did. Spaniards simply didn’t play till now as the European and World Champions used us to play, French team is experienced, tactically and technically surely not below the Croatian team that made a lot of troubles to Spain, while fast players like Ribery and Menez can always make dangerous situation against anyone’s goal.

Rotation has been on everybody's mind since England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series and rested Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad and the local favourite, Tim Bresnan, for the final tie at Headingley. Some supporters are complaining that they are being short-changed and former England internationals, Michael Atherton foremost among them, have talked of how resting players devalues the cap, whatever the reason, but England's director of cricket, Andy Flower, will not be deflected from his task of winning as many important cricket matches as possible. If that means resting leading England players ahead of a five-match series against Australia, so far little discussed but bound to pick up momentum, and a Test series against South Africa then so be it. And better rested, it might be argued, than injured. That is even before you consider the benefits of discovering more about players on the fringe of the side.
England's policy of maintaining county cricket by the proceeds of a non-stop international summer cannot exist without tensions. The ailing domestic Twenty20 tournament, weakened by dismal weather and the late withdrawals of overseas players whose contracts are now barely worth the paper they are written on and the absence of England players, is suffocated by the very England programme that is meant to support it. What English cricket needs is reliance upon more players, not the same elite squad playing interminably to prop up the first-class structure.
As for West Indies, as their coach Ottis Gibson has remarked, losing sides do not have the luxury of resting players. Darren Bravo has already returned home because of injury and Chris Gayle and Andre Russell are carrying injuries. This is not a dead rubber for West Indies - it is a chance to impress upon their lomng-suffering supporters that they have been better than also-rans.
Players to watch

Getting his chance again as Graeme Swann is rested, Samit Patelhas to prove that he is worthy of a place in English conditions. He performed admirably in India and against Pakistan in the UAE but a second spinner in England is regarded as surplus to requirements. This is Patel's chance to show is he more of an option than backup to Swann, particularly with James Tredwell also in the squad.
Another player with something very much to prove is Lendl Simmons. He had a terrible time at The Oval and his highest score since joining the tour is 23. Johnson Charles was preferred to him for the Australia series and the selectors may be looking back to Charles is Simmons doesn't produce something of note at Headingley.
England(probable) 1 Alastair Cook (capt), 2 Ian Bell, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Craig Kieswetter, 7 Samit Patel, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 James Anderson, 10 Jade Dernbach, 11 Steve Finn
West Indies (probable) 1 Lendl Simmons, 2 Chris Gayle, 3 Dwayne Smith, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Kieron Pollard, 7 Darren Sammy, 8 Denesh Ramdin, 9 Tino Best, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Ravi Rampaul.

Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka, 1st Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Galle, Jun 22-26, 2012

Certain pre-series predictions have come to nothing at the conclusion of the ODIs. Recent form suggested that Pakistan began the one-dayers with an upper hand before the first ball was bowled, but in the course of two weeks, the balance shifted quite comprehensively. As a result, the Test series begins with an air of caution for Pakistan, despite their form in Tests being reassuring. They'll do well to remember that they are taking guard in a format that has rewarded them for their doggedness and consistency. Since the tour of England in 2010, they haven't conceded a series in their next seven, that run including a 3-0 whitewash of the No.1 ranked England in February this year.
Sri Lanka have failed to win a Test series since Muttiah Muralitharan's retirement in 2010, casting doubts about their ability to challenge the best, let alone win. Wins against England and South Africa are indicators that they're starting to learn how to win again. A 3-1 ODI series win has given them a kick too, but the question is if they can maintain that dominance in the Tests. That said, the Tests could be quite interesting as both sides have plenty to prove.
While the aim will be to inch up the ICC Test rankings, both teams have an opportunity to establish Asian Test supremacy. That's partly owing to India's sudden freefall from the summit. After two ruthless thrashings away from home, India has slid to No.4, with just a slender lead on Pakistan. Pakistan will need to win comprehensively to go ahead of India. Sri Lanka have a lot of catching up to do to get to either side, but a series win will narrow that gap nevertheless.
Change has been forced on Pakistan, with a new captain standing in for the banned Misbah-ul-Haq. Despite Misbah's lack of form, it's still not ideal for their build-up. Mohammad Hafeez isn't among the runs himself, yet he's been given the responsibility of leading the team. Fortunately, the nucleus hasn't been disturbed. Their spin trio of Saeed Ajmal, Hafeez and Abdur Rehman remains. It will be interesting if Sri Lanka produces turning tracks, as it could be counter-productive for the hosts, who will rely primarily on one spinner. Since January 2010, Galle has been favourable for spinners and seamers, with 71 and 53 wickets respectively. Negating the spinners will be key to Sri Lanka's chances, irrespective of the surface. The weather, and expected rains, will be a factor too.
The DRS is unavailable for the Tests because the Sri Lankan board couldn't secure the funding for it.
Watch out for...
Azhar Ali: The only positive for Pakistan from the one-dayers, albeit a surprising one, considering he wasn't a regular in Pakistan's one-day plans. With the seniors misfiring, he took on more responsibility than expected. Unfortunately, due to lack of adequate support, he wasn't able to close out games. He puts a price on his wicket, and Sri Lanka will be wary of that.
Rangana Herath: Pakistan will have bad memories of facing him in Sri Lanka in 2009. With 15 wickets in three games, Herath was central to Pakistan's bewildering collapses in Galle and Colombo. Herath was rested after the first two ODIs in Pallekele on this tour, keeping in mind his expected workload in the Tests. Expect plenty of overs from him.
Pakistan (probable) 1 Taufeeq Umar, 2 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 3 Younis Khan, 4 Azhar Ali, 5 Asad Shafiq, 6 Mohammad Ayub, 7 Adnan Akmal (wk), 8 Abdur Rehman, 9 Saeed Ajmal, 10 Umar Gul, 11 Junaid Khan
Sri Lanka (probable) 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Tharanga Paranavitana, 3 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 4 Kumar Sangakkara, 5 Thilan Samaraweera, 6 Angelo Mathews, 7 Prasanna Jayawardene (wk), 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Suraj Randiv, 10 Rangana Herath, 11 Nuwan Pradeep
