Lions vs Sydney Sixers Live Streaming CLT20 Final 2012

The Champions League T20 may be the ugly step-sister of the cricketing world, with most fans giving it the cold shoulder, but for many of the players involved the final will be the biggest payday of their lives. With the champions getting a cool $2.5m, the money on offer will bump players, especially those who aren't part of national teams or aren't globetrotting T20 specialists, up a tax bracket or two. Adding to the occasion will be the sell-out crowd at one of cricket's iconic venues, the Wanderers Stadium, which will make it among the biggest audiences some of the domestic players will play in front of.

And contesting the final are the two most consistent sides of the tournament. Lions weren't topping anybody's list of favourites when the tournament began, but they have exceeded expectations through a combination of teamwork and temperament, keeping their head when things start to get tight. They have plenty going for them. The Wanderers is their home ground, and no one knows the conditions there better than Lions. The diversity in their batting - Twenty20 batting doesn't get too much more of a contrast than the leg-side biffing of Ghulam Bodi and the surgical precision of Neil McKenzie - has been married to consistency through the tournament. And the bowling has four match-winners: their two imports Dirk Nannes and Sohail Tanvir, their best bowler in the domestic tournament, Chris Morris, and one of the bowlers of the CLT20, Aaron Phangiso.

Their one reverse in this tournament came against their opponents in the final, Sydney Sixers. When the Big Bash League was launched a year ago, Sydney Sixers were the butt of jokes for their flamboyantly pink outfits, a colour which they started to refer to as 'mangenta'. A year on, they have earned the respect of Twenty20 fans after winning the inaugural BBL, and are yet to drop a game in the CLT20.

They came into the tournament as one of the leading contenders and have so far lived up to the tag, despite losing the services of Dwayne Bravo and Brett Lee to IPL teams, and that of possibly the most valuable player currently in T20 cricket, Shane Watson, midway through the tournament. They could also be without their captain, Brad Haddin, for the final, as he picked up a thumb injury - though he was fit enough to bat on Friday.

Watch out for…

Steve O'Keefe has opened the innings only three times in T20s: the semi-finals and final of the BBL, and Friday's CLT20 semi-final against Titans. On all three occasions he has made a significant contribution, including a Man of the Match performance against Titans. In addition, his left-arm spin has been taken for less than a run-a-ball this tournament.

Fast bowler Chris Morris was the top wicket-taker in South Africa's domestic Twenty20 competition last season, and he came into the CLT20 on the back of a 12-wicket haul against Dolphins in a first-class game. He started off quietly in this tournament but hit the headlines with his spell against Delhi Daredevils in the semi-finals, helping his team defend a sub-par score by taking the key wicket of David Warner and then killing off the game with scalp of Kevin Pietersen.

Weather and conditions

Despite gloomy weather forecasts, the showers thankfully stayed away during both semi-finals. The organisers will hope that trend continues for the final as well, when light rain is predicted.

A big crowd greeted the opening day of the main tournament in the 2012 Champions League, and the first game of the second promises enough excitement to draw a similar, if not better, response on Sunday. Chennai Super Kings have some big names in their batting, the Sydney Sixers have two of the best upcoming fast-bowling talents. Super Kings have an impressive spinner who's had plenty of success bowling in the Powerplay, Sixers have an allrounder who's made the opening slot in limited-overs cricket his own in recent times. Both teams have wicketkeeper-captains who are also attacking batsmen, and players with all-round ability and an approach ideally suited to the T20 format.

Super Kings have won the Champions League before, in South Africa, and the IPL twice, the Sixers are the current Big Bash League champions. The Sixers have fewer players who've had experience of South African conditions, but that's not to say they won't relish them. In a group comprising two big-name IPL teams, the Sixers provide an excellent counterbalance.

Watch out for...

It was in South Africa, at the same venue, that Pat Cummins made a dream Test debut, picking up seven wickets to set up his team's series-levelling victory. He bowled quick, swung the ball, got purchase from the conditions, and his partnership with Mitchell Starcwill be one to watch for. Starc, who's troubled batsmen with his inswinging delivery, had a productive World T20 and a successful limited-overs series against Pakistan in the UAE, in conditions that suited the slower bowlers more. He shouldn't mind bowling in South Africa. They're 19 and 22 respectively, and Sixers and Australia should think they're blessed.

Albie Morkel is the most experienced Twenty20 cricketer, with 202 matches. Unlike South Africa, who've dropped him from the XI in the past, Super Kings retained him ahead of the auction before the fourth IPL season. He didn't have a great World T20, amid talk that he'd been underutilised with the bat, and had an off day against Pakistan with the ball in a game that South Africa lost after being in control. He's back at home now, and it'll be interesting to see how best Super Kings use him, especially with the bat.

Knight Riders v Daredevils, Group A, CLT20, Centurion

The first match for the two IPL teams will not only be a tug of war for the first points or an opportunity to work-out their strategies for the tournament; the focus will also be on Delhi Daredevils' Kevin Pietersen, who is making a return to the field of play after his brief stint as a TV commentator.

Kolkata Knight Riders may need a shift from the bowling plans they employed in the IPL to suit the conditions in South Africa. The variations that worked well for L Balaji and Rajat Bhatia in India will need adjustments, and it remains to be seen what tricks they use to supplement their lack of pace. Sunil Narine and Jacques Kallis are the automatic choices, but Brett Lee hasn't had any cricket since Australia's ODI tour of England in July, where he managed just two wickets in three outings. His competition to get into the team will be primarily with Shakib Al Hasan. Batting-wise, the team will again look up to their captain Gautam Gambhir, despite his recent patchy form, Brendon McCullum and Kallis.

Daredevils, on the other hand, are much more settled. Their four first-choice overseas players - the captain Mahela Jayawardene, David Warner, Kevin Pietersen and Morne Morkel - are likely to play all the matches. Their pace-heavy bowling attack, which got batsmen hopping and ducking on benign pitches in the IPL, doesn't solicit a change and therefore, the team, on paper, will go into the match as favourites.

Watch out for...

Daredevils' top order features three of the game's fiercest hitters - Virender Sehwag, David Warner and Pietersen - and that spells entertainment for the crowd. Pietersen, in his debut season for Daredevils, injected an aura into the team with his explosive batting. He played in less than half of the team's matches - eight - but was the third highestrun-getter for the team with 305 runs at an average of 61. The highlights of his stay were the unbeaten 103 and the 20 sixes he racked up in the tournament. Warner came in after Pietersen left and added another century to his T20 tally, while Sehwag was at his consistent best - scoring five half-centuries in a row - on his way to amass 495 runs in the season.

Jacques Kallis was one of the pillars of Knight Riders' success in the IPL. He played in all the matches to score 409 runs and collect 15 wickets. But he has had a forgettable time after South Africa's successful tour of England. He failed to contribute with the bat - managing 24 runs in three innings - during the World T20 in Sri Lanka. However, in the familiar climes of South Africa, he will be one of the key players to guide the rest with both bat and ball.

Must win game for Nepal against Hong Kong

Nepal take on Hong Kong in a must win match of the ACC Trophy Elite at ICC Global Cricket Academy, Dubai on Tuesday.

With 6 points from four matches, U.A.E is leading the points table while it is a clash between Hong Kong and Nepal for a semi final spot as they battle it out on Tuesday.

Sitting comfortable at No 1, U.A.E have a net run-rate of +1.780 while Hong Kong (+1.443) and Nepal (+1.290) are playing their last group stage match on Tuesday as the game decide the semifinalists along with the group winner and runner up.

Winning the opener against the top staying U.A.E, Nepal came to a shocking defeat against Kuwait during their second match while Hong Kong lost to U.A.E and each have equal three wins.

Hong Kong will be back after their cruising six wickets loss to U.A.E, as they face a must-win situation in order to stay alive in the tournament. Meanwhile, in the form, Nepal would continue their momentum after that nine wickets victory over the bottom staying Saudi Arabia.

With lack of pacers, Nepal would hope a good play from their spinners and their part time bowlers. Nepal’s left arm pace bowler Amrit Bhattarai had an injury with the chest and didn’t play the last two matches while bowled only half of an maximum quota in the first match against U.A.E. While, Binod Das didn’t play any of the last three matches. However, the close source says Bhattarai may play against Hong Kong at risk though he has been advised to take rest for a month.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s batting have progressed so far with Gyanendra Malla, openers duo Anil Mandal, Subash Khakurel and the middle orders staying at hunt.

Shakti Gauchan, who stands second at the leading wicket takers tally is the most important player for Nepal ever since his return to the team. He has already claimed 9 wickets from 3 matches, 5 of which were against U.A.E., the tournament favorites.

On the other hand, Hong Kong would like to continue their ACC trophy campaign with a win. Being the Division II team, Atkinson’s side would be confident to take over the recent Division IV champions Nepal with the fresh talents in their side. Hong Kong have quite new faces but they have got the good all rounders. “Our batting was always the issue, but this team has better batsman than the past”, says Hong Kong’s bowling coach Afzaal Haider. It is hard to say who wins at the moment but looking at Hong Kong team’s strength in bowling and batting, Hong Kong have advantage. Nepal has been always tough, disciplined and hard to be beaten, he adds.

While, Nepal’s coach says, Boys are confident of the win. Loosing to Kuwait was unexpected and it was definitely a learning situation. Hong Kong is a good side and as winning this match is a must, we will play our best.

The match will be an exciting one as it will also decide the group winner. The looser of the match will be eliminated while the margin will too count. If Hong Kong win by 148 or more runs or chase in 21 or less overs, then Hong Kong will finish as group winner while for Nepal to finish as group winner, a win by a margin of 150 or more runs or a chase within 18.5 overs or less is needed.
Nepal have played six 50 overs matches against Hong Kong so far and won three of them while three were won by Hong Kong. Nepal had lost to Hong Kong by 6 wickets in ACC Trophy 1996 held in Malaysia. Nepal lost another two ACC Trophy matches against Hong Kong, one in 2000 in Kathmandu by 6 wickets while another in U.A.E. Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 87 runs in ACC Trophy 2006 at Malaysia. Nepal also won against Hong Kong during the 2008 edition in Malaysia and 2010 edition in Kuwait by 44 and 118 runs respectively.[preview Source: Cricnepal.com]

Sri Lanka vs West Indies T20 World Cup 2012 Final Match

Chris Gayle

This is a dream final for those who don't like sameness, uniformity and inhibition. These island teams have taken formula and regulation, locked it in a case somewhere and thrown the key in the sea around them.

Between them, apart from the many funky hairstyles and beards, these two sides have three spinners who bowl the carrom ball; one fast bowler whose release point can be so low umpires have been asked to change their shirt lest the ball is lost in the background; a batsman who plays a shot that endangers his own face before harming the opposition; fielders who leap over the boundary rope, catch the ball, throw it back when in air, recover, come back and take the catch with a success rate that matches some wicketkeepers' with regulation nicks; one batsman who is so enjoying his game he can break into a dance even when concentrating hard and in obvious pain; a captain capable of pulling off the kind of switch identical twins do in professional wrestling - and what are Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara if not twins.

We could go on with that list forever. You just look around and listen to cricketers' painstaking interviews, their tense faces, their breaking bodies, and international cricket seems like incredibly pressure-filled, and possibly glum. Then you watch Jayawardene set up a trap with his spinners, or just the newest innovator from the country trying to reinvent some art of the game. Then you also watch Chris Gayle celebrate a wicket, or try to scare the non-striker's stumps when issuing a Mankading warning. These guys make cricket feel like a fun activity again.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka Live T20 World Cup 2012

It hasn't been all fun and games for these teams, though. Has there been a bigger heartbreak in our sport than watching West Indies wither away, at times because they have failed to match that flair with sensible cricket? They have had so many pay disputes and strikes you might think communism is alive and well, and you wouldn't be more wrong. It's after many years of gloom that West Indies are rallying again at the world stage. Is this the time when, as their anthem promises, "the runs are going to flow like water, bringing so much joy to every son and daughter"? Is this the time West Indies will "rise again like a raging fire"?

Sri Lanka have mostly been healthy on the field, in world events, but they have had to play without pay, rise above alleged corruption in the board and, most importantly, recover from various heartbreaks in finals. Since 2007, they have lost three finals of World Cups. Lesser teams would have been broken beyond despair. Yet, here they are, playing their fourth World Cup final in five years.

When Australia and West Indies met earlier in this World Twenty20, the match was set up for a fascinating finish when rain intervened. The Australians had struggled to contain Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels and West Indies had powered to 191 - easily the highest total Australia have conceded in the tournament. The chase was tantalisingly poised at 100 for 1 in the tenth over when the rain came. Nearly two weeks later, the stakes are considerably higher. That encounter should serve as a warning to both sides. It reminded Australia that if they don't get Gayle cheaply they will find themselves under the kind of pressure that could be tournament-ending. And it showed West Indies that runs on the board are of no value unless your bowlers are up to the job - especially when Shane Watson is around.

But as much as lessons can be learnt from that match, the expectations on each of the sides have changed significantly since then. Australia entered the tournament without being rated a serious threat by many observers, but they and Pakistan have been the stand-out sides. West Indies flew in to Sri Lanka expected to have their best chance of a global trophy in quite some time, yet remarkably they have scraped through to the semi-finals by winning only one match in the conventional way - they have also had a tie that turned into a victory via the Super Over, a wash-out and a pair of losses. They need this to be the match when they really kick into gear.

It is worth noting that the toss is likely to be irrelevant in this encounter. Australia prefer to chase and have done so in every match of this World T20. West Indies like to bat first, and not since June 2011 have they chased a target - the only time they were to bat second in that time was against Ireland earlier in this tournament, when rain prevented a second innings.

Watch out for

All the attention has been on Shane Watson but Michael Husseyhas been quietly racking up the runs at No. 3. His work against Pakistan was outstanding, when under pressure he did enough to get the Australians past the mark at which they qualified for the semi-finals, even if victory was too tall a task. His experience and coolness at the crease will be just what the Australians need at the business end of this tournament - his 60 from 24 balls against Pakistan in the semi-final of the 2010 World T20 is evidence of that. The captain George Bailey summed Hussey up thus: "You might not be feeling like he's hurting you but suddenly you look up at the scoreboard and he has just ticked along. More importantly, it seems whenever he's batting, the partnership motors along."

Who else but Chris Gayle? West Indies have other players who can be destructive, but he is the one man Australia know can turf them out of the tournament on his own. He struck 54 against them in the group stage and although he has not produced an enormous innings yet in this World T20, he has threatened to do so. "He is the one guy who makes you panic a lot more because he takes you on," Australia's coach Mickey Arthur said. "The longer he bats, the more he becomes tougher to bowl at ... It becomes tough when you're executing under that much pressure to a guy like Chris Gayle because if you miss your area by that much, he scores, but I'm confident we have the artillery to keep that in check."

Team news

Australia will consider bringing the T20 veteran David Hussey in and the likely candidate to miss out would be Glenn Maxwell. However, that is far from certain and would almost certainly be the only change.

Australia (probable) 1 David Warner, 2 Shane Watson, 3 Michael Hussey, 4 George Bailey (capt), 5 Cameron White, 6 Glenn Maxwell/David Hussey, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Pat Cummins, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Brad Hogg, 11 Xavier Doherty

West Indies are likely to again choose the twin spin options of Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree on the wearing Premadasa pitch. It seems unlikely that any of Fidel Edwards, Darren Bravo, Lendl Simmons or Dwayne Smith will be able to force their way in.

West Indies (probable) 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Chris Gayle, 3 Marlon Samuels, 4 Dwayne Bravo, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Andre Russell, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy (capt), 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Samuel Badree, 11 Ravi Rampaul.

Pakistan didn't know until late on Tuesday night whether they'd have to keep their hotel reservations in Colombo for a few more days. But when South Africa's Robin Peterson gloved a ball for a single to take the score to 122 against India, a roar went around the Premadasa. It sounded as though Sri Lanka were playing, but the noise was from a legion of Pakistan fans who were celebrating their team's progress to the semi-finals on net run rate, at India's expense. There wasn't much separating the two sides, but Pakistan were better placed because they got their tactics right and won big against Australia earlier in the evening.

Spin has been Pakistan's strength in this tournament and their captain Mohammad Hafeez used his resources astutely. If that meant giving a rookie spinner the new ball and making the most experienced fast bowler wait till the 18th over, then so be it. The plan was to suffocate the Australians with turn on a sluggish pitch and it worked to such an extent that even Shane Watson had a rare, bad outing. The fielders made Australia's qualifying target of 112 seem distant. As a result, Pakistan play their fourth World Twenty20 semi-final tomorrow, but unlike on Tuesday, they will not have the lion's share of the support.

Sri Lanka are familiar opponents for Pakistan. The hosts were the more dominant side when Pakistan visited in June-July. Sri Lanka looked a more settled side in the Super Eights, making heavy weather of the chase against New Zealand (which culminated in a Super Over victory) and trouncing West Indies and England. The return of Ajantha Mendis has given their spin attack more bite and the seamers, Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara don't offer respite.

It's ironic though that the semi-final is Sri Lanka's first game in Colombo during this World Twenty20. They love playing at the Premadasa and the pitch - not as quick as the ones Pakistan played on in June - should suit their spinners. Sri Lanka haven't had a world title since 1996. They are two games away from breaking the drought, at home.

Watch out for

Spin v spin: Opening with spin has become the norm for Pakistan. Will Hafeez adopt the same tactic against Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mahela Jayawardene, who are fluent players of slow bowling? Hafeez, Hasan and Saeed Ajmal conceded only 53 in 12 overs and took all seven wickets that fell against Australia. The two Mendises - Ajantha and Jeevan - have played vital roles for Sri Lanka as well, and they also possess a largely unknown quantity in Akila Dananjaya.

Something's got to give for Shahid Afridi. He has looked a shadow of his old self with the ball, while as a batsman he remains unreliable. His three wickets in the tournament are at odds with his reputation for running through line-ups. Afridi still gets the odd delivery to grip and beat the bat, but Pakistan need more from him. His star value may not have diminished, but his wicket-taking and match-winning ability has.

Team news

Mohammad Hafeez didn't drop any hints of team changes. Pakistan wouldn't want to disturb their winning combination.

Pakistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 2 Imran Nazir, 3 Nasir Jamshed, 4 Kamran Akmal (wk), 5 Shoaib Malik, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Abdul Razzaq, 8 Shahid Afridi, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Raza Hasan.

Mahela Jayawardene stopped short of saying he would captain again after Sri Lanka's smart play-safe approach against England. He didn't hint at team changes either.

Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Jeevan Mendis, 6 Lahiru Thirimanne, 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Lasith Malinga, 10 Akila Dananjaya, 11 Ajantha Mendis

India vs South Africa Live T20 World Cup 2012

The Group 2 matches on Sunday had big billings, but turned out to be far from closely fought. Australia are now the team to beat, and India, with all their selection headaches ahead of the game against Pakistan, ultimately eased to victory. That success will give India's line-up some stability for their final game against South Africa. Their opponents, on the other hand, after a comprehensive defeat against Australia, desperately need to rebound, and rebound strongly, though even that may not be enough. The requirements for each team will be clearly laid out upon conclusion of the Australia-Pakistan game in the afternoon.

Should Pakistan beat Australia, South Africa will bow out and they'll be playing for pride against India. That would leave India needing to beat South Africa by a margin large enough to overtake either Pakistan or Australia's net run-rate, depending on which of those teams is second in the table. Should Australia beat Pakistan, a win over South Africa will see India through. A win for South Africa, in the same situation, will bring it down to net run-rates between three teams - India, South Africa and Pakistan.

India will be relieved, though concerns over Yuvraj Singh's fitness, despite his impressive show against Pakistan, will remain. Their fifth bowler - the combination of Yuvraj and Virat Kohli - picked up three wickets, though it remains to be seen if they bring in an extra spinner against South Africa.

South Africa's problems against Xavier Doherty will prompt questions over how their batting will cope against India's slow bowlers. Their fielding was off the mark and the pressure created by Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in their early spells proved unsustainable, as the rest of the bowling didn't deliver. The concerns are multiple, as AB de Villiers has admitted, and the slide in form in the Super Eights has threatened to push them out of another ICC tournament. The right results and the right numbers, though, may yet rescue them.

Watch out for

Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel bowled with pace, hit the right lengths, beat the bat and tested Australia's opening pair in Colombo. Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir can counterattack with equal ferocity, but their approach will be interesting to watch.

Rohit Sharma, who's been under pressure, has had a good outing in Sri Lanka so far and has also had his captain's backing. He'll look back on a crucial half-century he scored against South Africa in the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007, when an Indian win knocked the hosts out of the tournament.

Team news

Faf du Plessis was the South African to pad up and bat in the nets on the eve of the game, and he could well be picked in place of the struggling opener Richard Levi.

South Africa (possible): 1 Hashim Amla, 2 Faf du Plessis, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 JP Duminy, 5 AB de Villiers (capt & wk), 6 Farhaan Behardien, 7 Robin Peterson, 8 Wayne Parnell, 9 Johan Botha, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Morne Morkel.

South Africa have had issues against spin, and India could be tempted to play an extra specialist spinner. This could mean the impressive L Balaji may have to sit out.

India (possible): 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Irfan Pathan, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 R Ashwin, 11 Zaheer Khan.

Australia vs pakistan T20 World Cup live 2012

One poor showing, against India no less, has suddenly thrown Pakistan's World Twenty20 campaign onto far less certain ground than it had occupied solidly since day one of the tournament. Another loss to Australia, the competition's most assured and dominant team so far, and the Pakistanis will be highly unlikely to make the semi-finals. It is a harsh scenario, but a reflection of the competition's format, calling for consistent results. The hesitance and doubt evident against India must quickly be shed from the minds and limbs of Pakistan's cricketers, but the looming possibility of elimination may not aid the return of a state of focus.
By contrast, Australia know they do not even need to win to progress, for they will qualify for the semi-finals unless Pakistan can inflict the sort of thrashing George Bailey's men have commonly dealt out so for, and a similar margin unfolds in India's match against South Africa. So far led with exceptional poise and power by the irrepressible Shane Watson, the Australians have not had their depth of batting tested. Nevertheless, the likes of Michael Hussey and Cameron White have shown decent touch in their brief stays at the crease, and the confidence of all players has benefited from Watson's show of strength.
These two sides are very familiar with one another, having contested T20 and ODI series in the UAE as a prelude to this event. Australia began that T20 series floundering, and ended it with growing confidence. They have gone up another notch or three since, while Pakistan have been shaken by the India defeat. Mohammad Hafeez's team will hope to regain the confidence they showed in Dubai, or risk elimination from an event they looked in with a chance to win a few days ago.
Watch out for
The outstanding display by Xavier Doherty on his recall to the team has placed some pressure on Brad Hogg for his spot in the XI, should Australia wish to revert back to a one spinner policy against teams better versed at slow bowling than South Africa. Hogg has bowled tidily enough during the tournament, and offered plenty of energy in the field. But he has only two victims at a cost of 53.50 so far, and will need to provide a greater impact on the wickets column as the tournament reaches its pointy end.

Plenty of chatter has surrounded Mohammad Hafeez'ssurprisingly halting display with the bat and in the field against India. While there is some understanding at the occasion getting the better of Hafeez and his team, Pakistan's captain must show greater steel against Australia in order to push his team to the next phase. Hafeez should be helped by a return to the top of the bowling attack, for his spin has troubled David Warner in the past.
Team news
Pakistan can either make changes in reaction to the heavy defeat against India or keep faith with the XI that had previously looked so poised at this event.
Pakistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt), 2 Imran Nazir, 3 Nasir Jamshed, 4 Kamran Akmal (wk), 5 Shoaib Malik, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Umar Gul, 9 Yasir Arafat, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Raza Hasan
Xavier Doherty will be very difficult to drop from Australia's XI following his exceptional 3 for 20 against South Africa.
Australia (probable): 1 David Warner, 2 Shane Watson, 3 Mike Hussey, 4 Cameron White, 5 George Bailey (capt), 6 Glenn Maxwell, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Brad Hogg, 9 Pat Cummins, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Xavier Doherty

Neither of these teams will quite know where they stand until West Indies have played New Zealand in the first game of the day. There are various scenarios, ranging from the reasonably simple to the very complicated, but it is fair to say Sri Lanka are handsomely placed with the advantage of a strong net run-rate after their massive victory against West Indies.

If Sri Lanka win they have nothing to worry about. If they lose they could be eliminated if West Indies win and net run-rate conspires against them. England could lose and go through if New Zealand win; or win and go out if West Indies win. It is a host of ifs, buts and maybes which is the sign of an ideal group stage.

The hosts have the look of a side finding their peak. They could not have played a stronger game than the one put together against West Indies. Generally speaking the longer a host nation stays in a tournament the better for the event - the crowds and atmosphere for the Sri Lanka matches have been a highlight of this tournament.

With England it remains a guessing game which side will appear. They were comfortable against New Zealand, a side which, like themselves, are built on orthodox cricketers, but it did not really tell us much about their ability to combat the variety Sri Lanka will possess. Despite the slick performance it did not bode too well that the spinners, Daniel Vettori and Nathan McCullum, were still not played wholly convincingly.

Watch out for...

It has been a tricky tournament for Jonny Bairstow who was all at sea against India's spinners and struggled to maintain the required tempo against West Indies. If he is needed to play a significant innings against Sri Lanka their spinners will provide a tough challenge. Reports from England's training session on Sunday were that he had a lengthy spell with the keeping gloves so it appears there is a chance of him changing roles and replacing Craig Kieswetter behind the stumps.

Predictably the focus is on the home side's slow bowlers (and, of course, Lasith Malinga), but Nuwan Kulasekara is not a bowler to take lightly. He out-foxed Chris Gayle in the previous match and, if a batting side is not on the ball, can hustle through a couple of cheap overs. His only T20 against England, at Bristol two years ago, is an example of this when he took 1 for 15 in three overs to set the tone for a Sri Lanka victory.

Team news

Like Australia, questions remain about Sri Lanka's middle order but the other areas of the team are firing impressively. There is no real need for them to alter the starting XI although they may be tempted to bring back Akila Dananjaya if he has recovered sufficiently from his face injury.

Sri Lanka (probable) 1 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 2 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Jeevan Mendis, 6 Lahiru Thirimanne, 7 Thisara Perera, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Lasith Malinga, 10 Rangana Herath, 11 Ajantha Mendis

If Andy Flower and Stuart Broad make the call to drop Kieswetter then it is a choice between Michael Lumb and Ravi Bopara to replace him. There has been little indication that Bopara is anything other than a drinks carrier during this tournament so Lumb would be favourite. Elsewhere they need to decide whether to retain the same balance of attack as against New Zealand. There were some suggestions that Samit Patel will be returned to the side at the expense of Danny Briggs.

England (probable) 1 Craig Kieswetter/Michael Lumb, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Luke Wright, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Jonny Bairstow, 6 Jos Buttler, 7 Tim Bresnan, 8 Stuart Broad, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 Steven Finn, 11 Danny Briggs

This is it for New Zealand and the West Indies, there is a good chance one of this teams will progress to the next round. New Zealand have lost both their matches but if the manage to beat the Windies and Sri Lanka beat England convincingly New Zealand will scrape through. The West Indies will need either a big win if England beat Sri Lanka or if Sri Lanka beat England the West Indies will advance. Chris Gayle surely will be the decider of this match, if he performs the West Indies will take it. Daniel Vettori has had a decent tournament so far, hasn’t taken too many wickets but has kept it really tight.

Match Information :

New zealand vs West Indies super 8 match

October 1, Pallekele
Starting Time: 1530 Local Time (1000 GMT Time)

Key Contest:

Daniel Vettori vs Chris Gayle

Gayle hasn’t stormed Sri Lanka with huge performances, he has managed two half centuries and a 2 against Sri Lanka in his 3 innings and although it sounds good it isn’t what Gayle is after. Daniel Vettori will have to play a big role in tying down Chris Gayle early like Sri Lanka did. Gayle is a big match player and that will be a dangerous trait he posseses and New Zealand will be scared when Gayle is at the crease. Daniel Vettori has the experience to deal with Chris Gayle but it will be Chris Gayle who will determine who wins this contest.

Team News:

Jacob Oram was ruled out of New Zealand’s last match due to sickness and was apparently throwing up and New Zealand are hoping he will shake it off to replace Doug Bracewell. No other changes look likely.

New Zealand (probable) 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Rob Nicol, 3 Brendon McCullum (wk), 4 Ross Taylor (capt), 5 James Franklin, 6 Kane Williamson, 7 Jacob Oram/Doug Bracewell, 8 Daniel Vettori, 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Kyle Mills.

Samuel Badree is a possibility due to New Zealand’s reputation as poor players of spin and he will came at the expense of Fidel Edwards or all-rounder Andre Russell.

West Indies (probable) 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Johnson Charles, 3 Marlon Samuels, 4 Dwayne Bravo, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Darren Sammy (capt), 7 Andre Russell/Fidel Edwards, 8 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Ravi Rampaul, 11 Samuel Badree.
