Nepal joins Australia & England in ICC U19 WC 2012

Nepal will join the defending champion and host Australia along with 1998 winner England in the Group A of ICC World Cup 2012 to be held in Queensland, Australia.
Scotland, Nepal, Ireland, Afghanistan, PNG and Namibia will join the Full Members at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012 in Australia are now known following the completion of the qualifying tournament in Ireland. And the team groupings for the 15-day celebration of youth cricket have now also been finalized.
The event will get underway in Queensland exactly one year from today and Scotland will be there as the leading Associate after winning eight of its nine matches during the qualifiers, which took place in Dublin and Derry.
Group B is made up of the last event’s runner-up and two-time winner Pakistan, New Zealand, Scotland and Afghanistan while 2000 and 2008 champion India has been drawn in Group C along with West Indies, Zimbabwe and PNG. Sri Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh and Namibia make up Group D.
ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat  said: “The ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup is a very important tournament for us and I want to congratulate those six teams who have qualified to take part in Queensland next year.”
“This tournament has proved to be an important stepping stone for elite young cricketers aspiring to play international cricket. It’s an opportunity for them to develop and test their skills in a high-pressure situation against the world’s best at this level,” he added.

Big Picture
Turn, turn, turn. That was what the Australians had to worry about in the lead-up to the first ODI in Pallekele, after Ajantha Mendis bewildered them in the second Twenty20 with six wickets. But to everything, there is a season - even fast bowling in the spin-friendly Sri Lankan conditions, and Mitchell Johnson's own six-wicket collection showed that the attacks might be more evenly matched than it first appeared. He used his variations and bowled to his plans and set up a comfortable win for Australia, who have a 1-0 lead as the sides move to Hambantota for the next two one-day internationals.
For Sri Lanka, the most important thing is to take a good, hard look at the way their batsmen played on Wednesday. It was as if, after their two T20 victories, they had failed to adjust to 50-over mode. The captain, Tillakaratne Dilshan, set the tone with a very loose dismissal, trying to force David Hussey over mid-off from a ball that was too full, and he wasn't the only one to throw his wicket away. Mahela Jayawardene flashed at a fullish wide ball before he had his eye in and was caught behind, and Angelo Mathews copied his captain's folly. After the first few wickets fell, they never looked like batting out their 50 overs. When they walk out to bat in Hambantota, the message will be clear: a little more circumspection, a little less action please.
Australia put in a solid all-round performance in Pallekele, but the spin threat is still present. Their top order cannot lose focus when facing Mendis and Suraj Randiv, and if Lasith Malinga returns to the side, the pace attack won't exactly be a pushover either. But one of the real positives for Australia was the captaincy of Michael Clarke, who broke the opening stand when he introduced spin, held Johnson back and used him wisely, and kept attacking when a more conservative skipper might have taken his foot of the gas. It worked in the first match, now can his men back him again?

After Australia's victory on Wednesday, Clarke was asked about how they had handled Ajantha Mendis, who managed only one wicket for the game. Clarke said he was pleased that the batsmen had given themselves a little extra time to get settled against Mendis. They won't have that luxury in every match. Shane Watson attacked Mendis but was still occasionally baffled, while Clarke and Ricky Ponting also had their moments of uncertainty. Brad Haddin was totally bamboozled. Given a bigger target to defend, or the chance to bowl first, Mendis with his variations could be a very dangerous weapon.
Ricky Ponting has made the transition from leader to follower with ease. After years of riding every bump with the team, he can now focus purely on his own performance, and allow Clarke to do the worrying. A composed half-century in the first ODI was a good sign, albeit in a low-pressure situation, and if he gets the chance to bat long he will be keen to prove why he should remain the one-day team's No. 3.

Although it was Sri Lanka's batting that let the team down in Pallekele, a change is more likely in the bowling department, especially if Malinga is fit. He missed the T20s and the first ODI with a back injury but has been training hard in an effort to be fit for Sunday's game. The Big Picture
In 1981 the race riots were an undercurrent throughout a summer where England claimed a famous Ashes series victory. Thirty years later the unrest which began in London and has now spread elsewhere has overshadowed the build-up to a Test match where they can go No. 1 in the world with victory over India.
The England team were locked in their hotel on Monday evening, while India were keeping tabs on the situation, but the match is expected to go ahead as planned at a new-look Edgbaston which has undergone extensive redevelopment. The hosts are a win away from taking over from India at the top spot in Test cricket and they will take some stopping in their current form.
India have been a major disappointment during the opening two matches except for the herculean efforts of Rahul Dravid and occasional bursts from their pace bowlers. The batsmen have failed to reach 300 in four innings, while the support bowling for the quicks has been awful and the fielding often poor. For a side that came with such a mighty tag it has been quite a fall from grace.
MS Dhoni, himself in a poor run of form, and coach Duncan Fletcher have a major challenge. They will hope the return of Virender Sehwag can provide an x-factor but he's played hardly any cricket recently, falling for 8 against Northamptonshire over the weekend. Still, he has never been a player to value warm-up matches too highly.
Despite England's outstanding performances it is now that they could be at their most vulnerable. They have a recent track record of losing their way when a major target is there for the taking; at Headingley in 2009 and Perth in 2010 they stumbled with the Ashes up for grabs before recovering to claim the prize while last summer against Pakistan they lost at The Oval having been 2-0 up. This time they'll be desperate not to leave the series open.

Watch out for...
India have sent out their SOS - Send our Sehwag. After three months on the sidelines with a shoulder injury Virender Sehwag has returned to action although it remains to be seen how effective he can be. His shoulder is still causing trouble and he's also suffered partial deafness. Yet he has the ability to open some old scars. His 83 off 68 balls in Chennai was the key innings in India's successful run chase during the 2008 series against England. Sehwag is the type of batsman who can score a hundred in a session and give a struggling team belief. Still, it's asking a huge amount of one cricketer.
Another batsman returning to Test cricket, although under different circumstances, is Ravi Bopara. However, with Jonathan Trott unlikely to be absent for long it is set to be a one-off chance for Bopara to show his game has matured to make him a viable option in the Test team. He'll slot in at No. 6, a more natural position than No. 3 where Australia found him out, but still needs to convince he has the technique and temperament for the top level. However, having narrowly missed out to Eoin Morgan earlier in the summer he knows he's still the next in line.
Team news
With Trott and Chris Tremlett ruled out England don't face any last-minute selection issues. Steven Finn is part of the squad but won't keep out Tim Bresnan after his outstanding display at Trent Bridge. Bopara is likely to bat at No. 6 on his Test return which means Morgan moving up one spot.

India know they'll be without Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh for the rest of the tour, but will at least be able to welcome back Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to strengthen the batting and allow everyone to play in their usual positions. Given Suresh Raina's problems against the short ball Virat Kohli, who replaced Yuvraj, may be considered while Amit Mishra is still favourite to come in for Harbhajan despite talk of a four-man pace attack.

Pitch and conditions
The surface was very green in the days leading up to the game and although some grass will be taken off there should still be plenty to encourage the seamers. However, Steve Rouse, the Edgbaston groundsman, said there won't be much pace. The ground has had problems with wickets this summer and one Championship pitch was ruled 'poor' and cost Warwickshire eight points. The forecast, meanwhile, is mixed with rain expected to be around at times.

• England have won four out of five Tests against India at Edgbaston although the two teams haven't met on this ground since 1996, when Nasser Hussain and Sachin Tendulkar scored hundreds. 
• Kevin Pietersen averages 60.57 at this ground but the next best among the fit England batsmen is Andrew Strauss's 32.10.
